Gifts from an IRA
If you are 70 or older, you may be able to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA to the Catholic Charites. This is a simple and tax-efficient way to support the Church. A QCD allows you to transfer funds directly from your IRA to a qualified charity without the distribution being counted as taxable income. If you are required to take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), your QCD can also count toward that requirement.
How to Make a QCD
1. Contact the financial institution that manages your IRA.
2. Request a Qualified Charitable Distribution to the Catholic Charites.
3. The check must be made payable directly to Catholic Charities of Southeastern Ohio (not to you personally).
4. The check can be mailed to the Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Steubenville.
Key Benefits
• Tax efficient giving – the amount donated is excluded from your taxable income.
• Counts toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) if you are required to take one.
• Provides meaningful support to our ministries while reducing your tax burden.
Important Notes
• Individuals can donate up to $100,000 per year through QCDs.
• The distribution must come from a traditional IRA (not a 401(k), unless it is rolled into an IRA first).
• The gift must go directly from the IRA custodian to Catholic Charities to qualify.
• You should consult your financial advisor or tax professional to ensure the distribution is handled properly.

A Lasting Legacy of Love: Including Catholic Charities in Your Estate Plans
Planning for the future is one of the most meaningful ways we care for those we love. It is also an opportunity to extend that care beyond our lifetime by supporting causes that reflect our values and faith. A bequest, or charitable gift through your will or estate plan, allows you to leave a lasting legacy with Catholic Charities of Southeastern Ohio. It is a simple and flexible way to ensure that your commitment to serving others continues for generations to come.
For many, this type of gift does not affect their financial security during their lifetime. Instead, it becomes a final act of stewardship, a reflection of a life lived with generosity and compassion. Whether you choose to designate a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or a residual gift after other provisions are made, your bequest will directly support programs that serve individuals and families across our region.
These gifts help sustain vital ministries, from feeding the hungry and assisting those in crisis to supporting the elderly and strengthening families. In a region where many continue to face economic hardship, your legacy can bring hope where it is needed most. Estate planning can feel overwhelming, but it does not have to be. With the guidance of a trusted advisor, you can create a plan that reflects both your personal wishes and your desire to make a difference.
By including Catholic Charities in your will or estate plan, you are not only planning for the future, you are shaping it. Your legacy becomes one of faith in action, ensuring that the mission of serving the most vulnerable continues well beyond your lifetime.

A Lasting Legacy of Love: Including Catholic Charities in Your Estate Plans
When people think about charitable giving, they often think of writing a check or making an online donation. However, one of the most practical and impactful ways to support Catholic Charities of Southeastern Ohio is through a life insurance policy. Life insurance offers a unique opportunity to make a significant future gift without affecting your current financial situation. By naming Catholic Charities as a beneficiary of a policy, you can create a lasting impact that supports those in need for years to come.
There are several ways to make this type of gift. You may choose to designate Catholic Charities as a beneficiary of an existing policy, transfer ownership of a policy you no longer need, or even take out a new policy specifically for charitable purposes. Each option provides flexibility while allowing you to align your financial planning with your values.
For many donors, this approach is both accessible and meaningful. A policy that may have once served a different purpose can be transformed into a powerful act of generosity, helping provide food, shelter, transportation assistance, and other essential services to individuals and families throughout southeastern Ohio. Life insurance gifts are also a way to make a larger impact than might otherwise be possible during your lifetime. What may be a manageable premium today can become a significant future gift that helps sustain the mission of Catholic Charities.
Ultimately, this type of giving reflects thoughtful stewardship. It allows you to care for your loved ones while also extending that care to your neighbors in need. By including Catholic Charities in your life insurance plans, you are making a quiet but powerful commitment, one that ensures your compassion and generosity will continue to serve others for years to come.

Appreciated Securities
Donating appreciated securities, such as stocks, bonds, or mutual funds, is one of the most tax-efficient ways to support Catholic Charities of Southeastern Ohio while making a meaningful impact. If you have investments that have increased in value over time, contributing them directly to Catholic Charities may allow you to avoid capital gains taxes that would otherwise be owed if the assets were sold. In many cases, you may also be eligible for a charitable deduction based on the full fair market value of the securities at the time of the gift.
This means that a gift of appreciated securities can often provide greater support to our mission than an equivalent cash donation, while also offering potential financial benefits to you. Your gift will help sustain essential services across southeastern Ohio, from assisting families in crisis to supporting food programs, transportation initiatives, and outreach to the elderly and vulnerable. At the same time, it allows you to steward the resources you have been entrusted with in a thoughtful and impactful way.
Making a gift of securities is typically a straightforward process and can be coordinated through your financial advisor and our office. We are happy to assist in providing any information needed to complete the transfer.
